Limonite is an iron ore used in making wrought iron and pig iron. Limonite rocks are black in color.
Limonite spawns as small rocks on the surface, indicating a vein somewhere below.
Limonite veins are medium in size and can be found in sedimentary layers of stone:

Limonite can be smelted in a bloomery to produce a raw iron bloom, which is used to create wrought iron. Limonite can be smelted in a blast furnace to produce liquid pig iron, which is used to create steel. Limonite cannot be smelted in a fire pit, pit kiln, or crucible.
